Ouragami
Ouragami creates products made of scientifically engineered material called nano mineral technology, which makes them UV protective, anti-bacterial, self-cleaning, hypoallergenic, and even water repellent. This advanced material is used for a variety of products, though their original and most iconic is the Identity baseball cap. Whether worn by a cancer patient, a survivor, a family member, or a friend, it is meant to inspire hope.

Thoughtful Design
Inspired by the Japanese legend of folding 1000 origami cranes to receive a wish, with every 1000 hats sold, Ouragami helps grant a wish through the Make-a-Wish Foundation. This story not only inspired the branding and practices of Ouragami but also heavily influenced the new packaging I created for them.

Old Packaging
One of the aspects of this brand’s original packaging that really made it stand out was how unique and dynamic the structure was. However, the team wanted to refresh not only the design of their apparel packaging but the structure as well. Even though we moved to a more cost-effective more generic structure, with the use of strategically placed graphics and color blocking, the final result was still a work of art.

New Addition
After redesigning the apparel packaging I was asked to create a new packaging structure and design for a new initiative. Given the small size of this new packaging, I was given the opportunity to explore specialty packaging, I exhausted many options and countless iterations until I came to the solution you see here. Inspired by the folds that make an origami crane, this package uses minimal adhesive. Once the top is removed, the sides slowly begin to unfold, like paper petals, and the beautifully bright paper crane emerges.
